how to get a guest post

December 31, 2007

As we recently saw in how I would market this blog, guest posting can be an important part in the early stages of a successful blog. I have had some success doing guest posts in the past and here are some tips for getting your guest post accepted.

  • find relevant blogs to your topic
  • search their blog to see if there are any special instructions for a guest post such as your post much be xxx amount of words or maybe the blog must be xx months old.
  • tailor the post to their blog, give it some personality
  • check grammar and punctation
  • give them the post in the first email

These tips are simply, yet would substantially increase the chance of your guest post getting accepted.

how I will market “just another blog about blogs”

December 29, 2007

So how can I possibly market my blog about blogs when the competition dates back 5 years, has 1000s of heavy backlinks, earns 100 times what this blog ever will and has 35,000 blog subscribers. Well that is one bloody good question. Most webmasters visit more then one blog on a daily basis. Personally I visit around 7 blogs a day about similar topics to get different opinions and viewpoints. So really, I am just hoping to get my blog into other peoples “daily reads” I don’t really want to stand out in anyway, I’m happy to be boring, just as long as this blog because routine.

Week 1/2  I will b commenting on other popular blogs such as johnchow.com, problogger.net and shoemoney.com. I will aim to make my comments helpful and useful. Week 2. My next step will be guest posting which will complement the commenting as people who have been reading my ‘helpful’ comments will see my guest post and hopefully visit my site.

Week 3. This is the point where most blogs will fail. They will get tired of writing posts that have 0 comments. This is really one of the most important weeks of my blog. I will be contacting other smaller related blogs and asking for link exchanges and regular commenting.

Week 4. At around week 4, I will be trying to get more guest posts, be emailing other blogs asking for link exchanges and doing regular commenting on webmaster blogs.Week 5 + From this point I will be doing really everything above, just concentrating more on doing regular posting to increase my blogs subscribers.

why having a blog that no one reads is good

December 27, 2007

The main goal of people who make a blog is to get readers and make money. Having a blog that has no readers also has it’s own advantages to a popular, well known blog.

  1. You won’t get email bombed by annoying readers asking for free reviews and advice
  2. You won’t have to deal with huge amounts of comment spam
  3. There is less chance for your blog to get hacked
  4. No one is there to care if you don’t update the blog

Although, if I could choose i’d most probably rather have a well known, established blog then an unknown one with no readers.

keyword forcast - new tool by msn

December 26, 2007

Msn has recently launched ‘adCentre‘ a pay per click network. Similar to Googles Keyword Tool and Yahoos Keyword selector tool, adCentre also has a nice assortment of handy tools, nicknamed ‘adCentre Labs‘ The adCentre tools are very similar to pre-existing tools webmaster tools with the exception that the the Keyword Forecast also gives statistics such as gender and age of people searching a particular keyword. I prefer to use text view as it is easier to interpret the amount of searches and demographics. To change the view click the text button located next to the flash and image buttons.

Take notice of the disclaimer at the bottom of the page “The information, tools, and results shown here are based on a sampling of real data and are provided to demonstrate only a proof of concept. They may not be in production yet and are designed to produce anecdotal or generalized information.”

I wonder if they manipulate the data for certain keywords…
